Prescription Ordering Changes…

Following NHS Bassetlaw guidance we will soon be stopping 3rd party ordering of medications. This means that your local chemist or pharmacy will not be able to order your monthly repeat medications on your behalf.

View The NHS Bassetlaw Guidance.

We are therefore asking you to order your medication directly from us, rather than allowing your repeat prescriptions to be ordered on your behalf by your pharmacy or chemist.

If you already order your own medications directly from us you will not notice any difference and will not be affected by this change.

Why is this change happening?

Whilst it is convenient to have a chemist order your medications on your behalf we often find that items are ordered that patients no longer use or need. This is particularly true for variable use items, such as creams and inhalers. Over-ordering of items has both a patient safety and a cost implication. Only ordering medication when you need it can help prevent the build-up of unused medicine at home, which has to be stored safely and used within date.

How can I order my medications?

Although your chemist won’t be able to order on your behalf we offer a variety of different ways you can order yourself:

Online

Ordering online is the quickest and easiest way to order your medications. Our online system is available 24/7, and shows you a list of all your current medications available to order.  The system is available as a smartphone app, or as a website.

To register for online ordering – please complete the registration form >>here <<.

In person

You (or someone on your behalf) can hand in the white, tear off part of your repeat prescription at the practice.

By post

You can post the white, tear off part of your repeat prescription to your GP, or put the request clearly in writing with your name and date of birth.

By Phone

You are able to order by phone by calling the practice on 01777 870203 and choosing the ‘prescriptions’ option. The prescriptions line is available:

  • 9am to 11:30 and 2pm to 4pm Monday to Thursday
  • 9am to 12:00 on Fridays

We would be grateful if patients could reserve the use of the phone line for medication queries only, rather than routine monthly ordering.

However you order your medications we recommend that you order when you have seven days of medicine left.

Electronic Prescribing Service

If you have not already done so, you may nominate a Chemist or Pharmacy for your repeat prescriptions to be sent electronically. This cuts out the Green Paper and saves you a trip to the surgery. If you have not already nominated a pharmacy and would like to do so please use our Electronic Prescribing Nomination form.

If any patients have difficulty ordering their medications please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to help.
